Author Celebration! #IWSG

While all of us get mired in insecurities now and then, I think there's a lot to celebrate about being an author, like NEW RELEASES. Our own Ninja Captain and creator of IWSG Alex J. Cavanaugh launched book three in his Cassa series: Cassa Storm ! We're proud of him for finishing his first series--what an accomplishment. Buy it HERE . I love how my pub sister Nicki Elson challenges herself with new writing projects, like this zombie fairytale Hans & Greta, coming soon ! Great job, Nicki . Another talented pub sister Carol Oates designed that creepy cover. Well done, Carol ! Finally, I read a wonderful author blog post last month that I wanted to link to for the Insecure Writers Support Group, but alas, I can't find it now. The gist of the message was that your book might not be a best-seller...it might not receive critical acclaim...but it is YOUR story, and therefore it is important. We write books the way only we know how -- each novel is a unique ...

On Best Behavior Excerpt

The release of On Best Behavior is less than one month away! *jumps up and down* Here's a glimpse of what's inside--an excerpt from Chapter 5: "Con Tequila". Lurching awake on the sofa, Sophie scanned the darkened apartment. All was quiet except for the rasp of her breaths as she tried to orient herself. Then there was the noise that must have stirred her from sleep—a scratching at the door. She heard a slight clink of metal, the crunch of a key jamming into the lock, and harsh cursing from the hallway. Was a Barberi thug trying to break into the apartment? She was fully awake now. Soundlessly she crept toward the front door, halting at the clang of keys dropping on the hallway carpet. More swearing ensued, and her heart leaped to her throat. She was almost to the peephole when a soft chuckle floated through the door. Relief flooded her. She’d recognize that sound anywhere. Yanking open the door, she had to look down to find Grant crouching at h...

On Best Behavior Excerpt

Congratulations to Nicole and Kerrin, the big winners of Kindle Fires on the Sizzling Summer Giveaway! If you missed the giveaway, more opportunities to win abound. Bookish Treasures hosts a New Adult giveaway HERE , where you can win Streamline . Hop over to Martini Times to win: Streamline HERE With Good Behavior (The Con duct Series #1) HERE . I'm thrilled the third and final book of The Con duct Series ( On Best Behavior ) will launch 9-24-13. We've been editing like madwomen (not much of a stretch for me) and I'm pleased with the result. One scene that got the axe was this flashback from Grant's sixteen-year-old nephew Ben. If you've read my books, you know I love to write therapy scenes and flashbacks. In this part of Ben's therapy session with Dr. Hunter Hayes, he remembers when he was five years old and spent the night at his father Logan's apartment: His tummy hurt. He’d woken up on the sofa an hour ago, and he’d trie...
