If you're like me, sometimes the negative voices get you down. Here's a helpful post for writing: Five Negative Voices and How to Shush Them.

A more positive voice:

I love writing--I really do! Let me specify, though, that I love FICTION writing. The past two weeks I've slaved over writing a psychology book chapter for a textbook, and it was hell. No wonder I gravitate more toward therapy than research. One small consolation is that writing five fiction novels has improved my academic writing, too.

I'm almost done with my sixth book ACED (Blocked #2), yahoo!

76000 / 80000 words. 95% done with Aced!

I'm hoping for a November or December release, depending on the editing timeline. Have you released a novel in December? I'm nervous the holiday rush might be a bad time to launch my baby.

I'm sure your fiction writing skills helped a ton in in your non-fiction writing. Writing non-ficiton investment reports was how I first discovered my love of writing.

Early December might not be too bad - get people before they get totally caught up in the whirlwind of the holidays. I'm sure all the Blocked fans will be happy to get their hands on Aced as soon as they can.

Almost done!
All that research does sound like hell.
The latest one of my books has ever come out is October, so not sure on a December release.

I released a book the first week of December and it seemed to go well. It was fun doing it around the holidays. But I figured any later than that probably wouldn't be good. Whenever you decide to release I hope the book is a big success. :)

The "I love writing" image is so cute!

I feel your pain in writing non-fiction. I've had to write docs for work, and it's nowhere as fun as fiction.

Congrats on being so close to done with book 2!
I was hoping to get my book out by mid-November but that looks unlikely at this point. I don't really want to do it over the holidays so that's going to push it to late January, maybe even in February. Argh!

Still better than writing and researching for textbooks, though. :-(

Congrats, Jen. I wouldn't obsess over the timing. The December holidays don't impact a huge segment of the population (non Christians, non religious readers). I think if you do some high impact pre launch promo, you'll do just fine. So happy for you.

Bring on the sequel! Can't wait to find out what happens next. I always read more during the holidays so it could be a great time to release it. I'm beginning to think that a lot about publishing is delightfully random (how's that for putting a positive spin on it!) so maybe do it when it suits you, rather than second-guess the market.
