IWSG Question: As you look back on 2017, with all its successes and failures, if you could backtrack, what would you do differently?

After just getting weighed at the doctor's *gulps*, I would have set up the standing desk I bought. Amazon delivered it months ago and it sits still neatly packed in its box while I sit my life away as a therapist and author. One hour of exercise doesn't counteract fifteen of sitting. Sitting is the new smoking, they say, *coughs*

How's your writing?

I'm in the exciting phase of writing: preparing for publication! My editor is polishing and my book designer is creating a cover for the launch of TWIN SACRIFICE. Inspired by a dream, I started this novel in 2009 and kept diverting to other projects before finishing it in 2017. It's my first psychological thriller and I'm psyched for reader feedback.

Twin Sacrifice is up on Goodreads and I'll post signups soon for the cover reveal on 1/10/18 and the release tour on 2/28/18.

Happy holidays!

That's why I walk several times a day and usually jog as well. Moving is better.
Great news about your next novel!

That's awesome you get out walking several times a day, Alex! I can't jog due to back problems and I miss that intensity of exercise. But my body's not really built for running, either.

Congrats on taking the next steps for publication!! Love that you're sticking with the original title.

Walking is the best! A standing desk sounds cool. I've heard Hemingway wrote while standing. I had a weight bench that sat in its box for a couple of Christmases and only made it out of it this year. Now I just need to graduate from 8 & 20lb dumbbells...

I spend WAY too much time sitting as well and that's one of the reasons I took up running. Unfortunately I've become quite lazy with that lately so I really need to get off my butt!
Congrats on your upcoming release!! I'd be happy to help!

Hey Nicki, I did a Facebook poll and Twin Sacrifice was the overwhelming winner so I went with that. I didn't know that about Hemingway.

Julie, I do pretty well with consistent exercise but my nutrition could use some work, especially with stress eating after a long day at work. That's great you're running. Thanks for your help with the new release--I'll send you info to sign up from Book Partners in Crime when it's ready!

It's always exciting preparing a project for publication, especially one that's been a long time coming. Congrats!
I just can’t fathom sitting being anywhere near as bad as smoking! Best of luck with publishing & in all your 2018 projects!

I don't think I'd do very good with a standing desk because of my back, but alternating from sitting to standing and back again would be nice.

Thanks, Nick! This one has been percolating for some time.

Joey, I agree--at least I'm not smoking in addition to my sitting!

Chrys, I have back problems too but I still want to try the standing desk at least part of the time. I like your idea of alternating.

How exciting to be in the preparing for publication of your book! I am happy for you! Well, at least you bought a standing desk ~ That puts you ahead of me. Happy writing in December!
Weigh yourself at home, Jennifer, stark naked, of course, in the privacy of your own bathroom. Then it really is between you and your scales.

Good look with your new book.
Congratulations on the new novel! And I've heard that twins have a special bond and that in many cases they're closer than siblings who aren't twins are. I'm not quite sure why. And I think a lot of people can relate to the issue of trying to deal with an emotionally unstable relative like the one in your story; it's both draining and scary.

Fundy, good point--at least I made the step to buy it! Maybe I'll open it over the holidays.

Rosemary, unfortunately that weighing method was rather alarming as well. :-) But not as bad as at the doctor's!

Neurotic, thank you! The suicidal twin in my story has some valid reasons for being messed up, but of course I'm going to try to help him heal as the novel progresses. I think we're all rather intrigued by the special bond between twins. Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Holidays! I exercise a lot but find that sitting too much still does me. I was great about using my tabletop stand for my laptop for a long and slipped. My weight went up a bit too, so now I'm getting back into the standing more of the day. Hope that you do too.
