#IWSG Genres We Love to Write #Marketing #NewRelease

Happy February, writers! Join us for our monthly group therapy, hosted by Alex Cavanaugh.

Hop over to visit this month's kick-butt co-hosts!

IWSG Question: What do you love about the genre you write in most often?

I write multiple genres so I'll mention one aspect I love about each:

Romance -- A spark of attraction that deepens into intimacy provides emotional depth in the story.

Suspense -- Torturing my characters by imprisoning them or sicking the Mafia on their tail creates needed plot conflict and hopefully keeps readers turning the pages.

Sports -- The pursuit of excellence, against mighty odds, reveals character.

Psychology -- Throwing characters into therapy is an ideal mechanism for character development and healing.

I'm gearing up for the release of psychological thriller (with suspense and romance) TWIN SACRIFICE on 2-28-18.

Thank you to all who shared my cover reveal, including IWSGers Shannon from The Warrior Muse, Jacqui from Word Dreams, Miranda Burski, Cathrina Constantine, and Nicki Elson's Not So Deep Thoughts. Your support is awesome.

Here's my marketing plan:

* Goodreads giveaway

* Facebook release party

* Netgalley listing for 6 months

* Pre-order Blitz and Release Tour by Book Partners in Crime Productions

* I made the ebook available on Amazon for pre-order and I'll do author takeovers at a few friends' Facebook pages

If you have additional marketing ideas that have worked for you, please let me know. Happy writing!

That's awesome that you can write in so many genres. I just write in one genre-fantasy.

Congrats on your new book release. Sounds like you have a good plan on marketing. I think it's good that you are not just promoting your book through IWSG bloggers because then you're too much the same audience. When you go on your blog tour, I'd recommend including a giveaway that will encourage people to stop at the blog to learn about your book.

Natalie, a giveaway is a great idea. Thank you!
I think it's great you can take your career and work it into your stories.

Here from Alex's blog. Congrats on your book. I'm new to the world of marketing, etc, so it's fascinating to learn how others approach it.

I never planned to sell my first novel. After collecting cyber dust in my computer folder for two years, I figured why let all my hard work go unread. If nothing else, it could help me build and author platform. It would hopefully be well underway by the time my second novel was completed. So far, I've started an author page, updated my blog, and FB account, etc. Also, I posted the novel on Kindle Scout, so my page views on my social media sites has increased exponentially.

This said, if you'd like, I'd be happy to post your novel on my FB page. I posted Alex's CASA STAR book, and would be happy to help you in any way I can. Us authors have to stick together, LOL. Let me know.
Looks like a sound plan, best of luck!

It sounds like you've got a FUN release planned. Way to go! I wish you epic success with the release. I won't be around much, virtually speaking, but I hope you have awesome participation.
Good luck with your release. Sounds like you have a good plan.

Suspense is great and can be incorporated into any genre. That's why I tend to do with every story I write. :)

Best of luck with your release!

Alex, nobody is as big of a psychology nerd as I am, and I'm grateful that my readers tolerate my foray into therapy!

Hey Andrea, setting up social media accounts as an author is a lot of work, not to mention keeping it updated! Are you on Goodreads? I've met some cool readers there. I could definitely devote more attention to marketing but I try to feel satisfied with the amount I find time for. Thanks for the offer to help--I extend the same offer!

Thank you, Anglea.

Crystal, hope you're having fun with your little ones!

Good luck with your release! I've always enjoyed reading suspense but I've never written it (although I do have a future story idea that involves some suspense, so I suppose I'll write it eventually!)

You sure do know how to torture your characters. I love the way you work therapy into your stories - it gives so much insight into the characters and their development, and your write those scenes in such a compelling way.

So excited for Twin Sacrifice to make it onto Kindles everywhere!

If you have a LibraryThing profile, have you ever checked out the LibraryThing Member Giveaway program? It's for ebooks and you can give away a whole bunch and ask for reviews in exchange for the book. It's free.

My main strategy for the It series was to release at a sale price and do paid advertising on email lists. It was the lazy approach, but it also worked better than anything else I've tried.
Wishing you much success, Jennifer with your new release. And thank you for the shout out!!

Sarah, I hope your suspense WIP works out well!

Nicki, I hadn't thought about Library Thing. You've also done Thunderclap a few times as well--do you think it is helpful? Thanks partner!

Cathrina, I appreciate your support!
Wow on writing in so many genres! It's great you have a number of areas you love to write in. :)
A multi-genre author? Wow, that's awesome!
With that detailed marketing plan, it seems like you are organized and on track.
Good luck with the new book!
Gosh! I wish I were more organized. Bravo to have such a great marketing plan. And definitely write in any and all genres you wish. All the luck!

Madeline, I do enjoy variety! I like your beach photo.

Michelle, thank you!

Victoria, I often feel disorganized but I do want to market this book more than my past novels.
